January was an exciting month. At the opening of Galleria's International Watercolor Contest 2020, "Florería" not only took second place over all but was also awarded the LabourLimea Prize, an offer for another exhibition. to say I was over the moon would have been an understatement. Thank you the Gallery for all the hard work putting this exhibition together but also to the many jurors who were responsible for the selection of pieces to be exhibited. This is what was written about this piece: "Florería, A deep perspective vision combined with a great play of light and shadow make this work a masterful construction." |

![]() December of 2019 I was invited to join the roster of artists represented by Art Gallery of St. Albert, Sales and Rental. I'm so pleased to be part of this talented group. In January, as introduction, they named me "Artist of the Month" and the St. Albert Gazette put together this terrific article of my work. A huge thank you to them all! ![]() The Artelier Studio Artists invite you and your guests to a Meet and Greet holiday show and sale A fun afternoon to discover original fine art and crafts on Dec 17th, 3-6pm Artelier 10007-80 Ave Edmonton, Alberta I very much look forward to seeing you on the 17th and giving you the grand tour of my new studio / gallery space Happy holidays to you and your family Anne McCartney It is always exciting to be part of an international exhibition, to see what other artists from around the world are creating is such a treat. I have had the honour of taking part in quite a few to date. I find what makes the experience priceless is if you are able to attend the opening. Not only are you able to see the art but you are often able to meet the exhibiting artists. My favourite memories of an opening are from a show last year in Greece, organized by the same person as this one, George Politis. It was wonderful to be part of the fun and creative group of exhibiting artists, who were all so warm and generous. I am saddened by being unable to travel to Greece this time around, but my hopes are that there will be another in the future that I will be able to attend.
![]() We started our year with an amazing trip to Africa. I came back with loads of pictures and loads of inspiration. While travelling I received some wonderful emails which re-enforced that I am never very far away from my work in the art world. I was notified of two publications of my work: one in a Chinese Art Magazine, and one in an American Art magazine (International Artist). I was also notified of a sale (one of my pieces in China) and of acceptance into an exhibition in Bulgaria. What a great month all around. I love that I can travel half way around the world and still feel so in touch with my passion for art. This is a piece that I finished just before my departure to Africa. It was inspired by a trip to Japan. I loved the detail of her Kimono, and the drama of the light, so those are what became important to emphasize. Hope you like it. ![]() "The Annual Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society is juried by Signature Members who have been elected by the AWS membership. It is the purpose of the Society to promote the art of painting in water media and to exhibit works from the best contemporary watercolor artists. " http://www.americanwatercolorsociety.org Yippee! I was finally accepted...and can't pass up on the opportunity to take it all in with a trip to NYC. I sent this piece off today and I hope to follow in April, to be there for the awards dinner on the 15th, should be quite the celebration. ![]() I would like to share some exciting news. I have been invited to participate in two shows in China in December and since they just happen to run at the same time, I have decided to go over and celebrate! The first show is a juried exchange with the National Watercolor Society of America, of which I am a member, and the Shenzhen Watercolour Society. The show runs in China for a couple months and then moves to California for two more months. The Shenzhen International Watercolour Biennial (the second show) is huge for me. It started as an international competition in watercolor with about 4000 people entering from around the world. I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the 100 people outside of China to be invited to participate in this exhibition. I am thrilled to be able to attend both openings. |
Anne McCartneyI am an artist currently living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada... I love to paint! My favourite medium is watercolour. My favourite way to spend a day would be to be outside with fellow artists sketching or painting. AAAHHH! I have been fortunate enough to do what I love as a career, spending many hours in my home studio painting the days away. Some of my 'successes' hang in homes and corporations around North America, Europe and Asia. I hope you enjoy the pieces I have to share with you. Archives
